Firearms are typically better than melee. Remember, the more distance you can have between yourself and the enemy. With these, you shouldn't have any issues clearing the lower level (Green) zones. It is recommended that new players try to obtain the following weapons as soon as they can: Special event weapons (Big Clint, Luxury).Indian/Native weapons (Apache Box, Spiked Club).Weapons in the West are broken down fairly easily. However, it is encouraged to run back and take revenge on whatever enemy that decided to attack you! No need to panic, and worry about trying to run back to your corpse.
Fear not though, you KEEPyour inventory and the loss of durability to tools is minor.
